LOVE THAT REMAINS: FOR SUICIDE LOSS SURVIVORS MEDITATION SCRIPT

September is National Suicide Prevention Month…it’s a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by suicide.

It is really important to me to provide some meditations for those who might need them, so I asked my good friend, who has been personally impacted by suicide, to write this week’s meditations.  If you or someone you know could use it, please listen and share.

If you feel you need someone to talk with right now, you are not alone. In the U.S., you can call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If you’re elsewhere, please look online for a local crisis number, or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).

Find a quiet place to sit and greet this new day.

Let your body settle — feet grounded, shoulders soft.

PAUSE…

Close your eyes if that feels right,

and take a deep breath in, filling your chest with air.

Exhale slowly, feeling your body soften a little more.

PAUSE…

Morning has come again,

and with it, a chance to remember:

Not everything stays.

But love does.

PAUSE…

Breathe that in —

the simple truth that love is bigger than endings,

stronger than silence,

wider than loss.

PAUSE…

You have carried pain.

You have carried questions with no clear answers.

You have carried a heart that misses your loved one more than words can say.

PAUSE…

Pause now and honor that ache.

It only exists because there was so much love.

PAUSE…

Feel it —

the way your chest holds both the heaviness and the warmth.

Breathe into that place.

PAUSE…

Let your breath remind you:

they are not here in the way you wish,

but their love has never left.

PAUSE…

It lives in your memories,

your laughter,

your tears,

your dreams.

PAUSE…

It lives in how you show up for life now,

a little softer,

a little kinder,

a little more aware of what truly matters.

PAUSE…

Breathe in the love that remains.

Let it fill the quiet spaces inside you.

PAUSE…

This love does not demand you forget the pain.

It asks only that you keep your heart open —

open enough to feel it,

open enough to carry it forward.

PAUSE…

Pause and think of one gentle way

you can honor their love today.

PAUSE…

Perhaps by taking care of yourself.

Maybe by speaking kindly to someone else.

Maybe by smiling at the morning light,

knowing they would want you to feel its warmth.

Whatever it is, trust that love will guide you.

PAUSE…

Breathe in again.

Feel the air feed the part of you that still knows how to love,

even through heartbreak.

PAUSE…

Love is woven through every heartbeat,

every breath,

every sunrise that greets you.

PAUSE…

And as you move through this day,

may you be reminded of the simple, tender truth:

They are gone,

but their love stays.

It stays with you.

PAUSE…

And you are worthy of feeling that love,

living that love,

sharing that love —

today and always.

PAUSE…

Breathe in one last time,

filling yourself with quiet strength.

Exhale, and open your eyes gently,

ready to step into this day,

carrying the love that remains.

Namaste, Beautiful.
