So Let’s Begin…

IT’S OKAY TO BE A MESS MEDITATION SCRIPT
September is National Suicide Prevention Month…it’s a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by suicide.
It is really important to me to provide some meditations for those who might need them, so I asked my good friend, who has been personally impacted by suicide, to write this week’s meditations. If you or someone you know could use it, please listen and share.
If you feel you need someone to talk with right now, you are not alone. In the U.S., you can call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If you’re elsewhere, please look online for a local crisis number, or text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).

Settle yourself into this moment—
just as you are.
No need to tidy your heart first.
No need to polish your thoughts.
You, in your undone edges and scattered pieces,
are welcome here.
PAUSE…
Take a breath, dear one.
Feel it move through you like a soft hand,
touching every sharp corner
with mercy.
PAUSE…
Maybe today your mind is loud.
Maybe your body aches.
Maybe your life feels like a pile of tangled strings
no one taught you how to unravel.
PAUSE…
This is not failure.
This is not proof you’re doing life wrong.
This is proof you are living.
Breathing.
Learning to love yourself in the wildest weather.
PAUSE…
Breathe in,
and feel how this air does not ask you to be better.
It asks only to be let in —
to keep you here, alive and soft enough to try again.
PAUSE…
You have carried burdens that don’t belong to you.
You have swallowed words you wish you could say out loud.
You have stumbled, raged, wept behind locked doors.
This does not make you unworthy.
This makes you brave.
PAUSE…
Look at you.
Getting up again.
Washing your face.
Making coffee.
Showing up for this day with all your cracks showing.
PAUSE…
This is grace —
not the tidy kind that floats above the mess,
but the kind that sits in the mud with you
and says,
I am still here.
PAUSE…
Breathe again.
Let your shoulders drop.
Feel how your heartbeat keeps drumming,
even when your thoughts are chaos.
PAUSE…
Life is not asking you to be perfect.
It is asking you to be real.
To be awake inside this one beautiful, broken day.
PAUSE…
So if your house is messy,
if your heart is noisy,
if you feel a little lost today —
bless it.
Bless the mess.
Bless the tender human you are,
trying so hard to find your way home to yourself.
PAUSE…
You don’t need to fix this moment.
You don’t need to hide it behind a smile.
Let the mess breathe with you.
Let the softness come in through your ribs.
PAUSE…
Say to yourself,
I am allowed to be unfinished.
I am allowed to be confused.
I am allowed to be a glorious, holy mess.
PAUSE…
Take another breath —
slow, forgiving.
Let it remind you:
you belong here, exactly as you are.
PAUSE…
Namaste, Beautiful.
