“Life is a moving, breathing thing. We have to be willing to constantly evolve. Perfection is constant transformation.” ~ Nia Peeples
Chaos. Oh, the chaos. It seems to sneak up on me, poking its head out through the holes of all the details of life that I tell myself I’ve managed, organized and controlled. Chaos rises like lava deep from the underbelly of what I think is stable ground. It oozes out, spreading its flaming, hot substance all over the landscape of my life. It burns everything in its path, leveling all growth, all life. Chaos.
I moved recently. Oh man, those three words hold so much: logistics, mindsets, emotions and actions.
I moved a lot as a young adult. Back then, moving from apartment to apartment was easily handled in a day by bagging up just about everything in garbage bags. So I’ll admit that I had no idea what it would actually look like or feel like to MOVE as an adult…with a spouse, kids, pets and things.
It’s been a lot. Amazing, awesome, super exciting. And…a lot.
Chaos around me. Chaos within me.
But soon the clouds get heavy, and the rain falls, the ground is nourished again, and from what seemed to be a graveyard of hard ash, life grows again. More rich, more stable, more abundant than ever before. The lava has nourished the land.
The chaos has forced us to evolve. To transform.
So, here I sit, on the other side of this particular chaotic season of my life, reflecting on everything I learned.
1. Time will pass. Everything will settle.
This is a hard one to remember in the intense moments of chaos. So, I often say it to myself as a mantra. Time will pass. Everything will settle. And it does. It always does.
2. Feel all the emotions.
Let them pass through like a storm. They’re all valid and can teach us something about ourselves. But…don’t let the rain stay for too long.
3. Process it all.
Talk to your trusted people. Write in your journal. Meditate. Whatever you need to do to move through all the things you’re experiencing. There may be some gems in there.
4. Move your body.
Walk, run, swim, jump, lift weights…just sweat…whatever you can do to physically change your body’s chemistry. It’ll lighten your mood and help you feel more calm and clear.
5.. The chaos will help shape you.
Just like a diamond, the rough moments of pressure will help you shine more brilliantly. You are continuing to carve out the masterpiece of you.
6. Ask for (more) help.
Anyone else think they can carry it all? 😉 Guilty! Allow others to carry some of that weight. They’re usually happy to do it.
7. Learn to take a break, not give up.
When your head feels like it’s about to explode, when your stress is so high…stop. Take a break from what you’re doing. For 5 minutes or 5 hours or even 5 days. Take a break and come back to it when you feel more calm.
8. When the storm has passed, recalibrate.
When the chaos has calmed down, take some time to look back and make sense of everything that just happened. What did you learn? What good came out of it all? How could you have shown up differently? What might need some healing? Who are you now? This is your new beginning, your new wisdom, new understanding of yourself and the world.
9. Stay connected to gratitude as much as you can.
In these chaotic moments, it can be really challenging to be grateful. But any shred of gratitude you can hold onto will fill your bucket with life-giving water.
10. Celebrate.
Once you’re on the other end of a chaotic season and new life is growing from what used to be lava, celebrate. Show yourself some love or share the moment with those you love so you can mark the transition of the seasons.
Which one of these do you resonate with the most? Hit reply and share…I’d love to know. 🙂

Final thought…
This will not be my last season of chaos. There will be more. And each one will continue to shape me, make me wiser, and clearer and clearer about the life I’m here to live. And for that…I am grateful.
Love,
Katie
