A Note on Worthiness

Listen to this episode Here! ????

????????????
You are worthy.
You are whole.
Just because you’re you.
You don’t need fixing,
Validation or praise,
You know what is true.????????????

When I would see You Are Worthy images on social media, all cute and artistic, I would speed right past them with a slight eye roll.

Really? Of course we’re worthy. Isn’t that obvious?

I was raised in a family of 6 kids…five girls, one boy, a feminist father, and a strong matriarchal mother. All around me was confidence, steadiness and wholeness. My parents were secure and proud of who they were, and made sure to teach us lessons like “you can do anything you put your mind to” and “just be yourself” that punctuated a feeling of strong self-knowing that I had as a kid.

Unworthiness? Never even heard the word until I was an adult.

When I did, I still didn’t really identify with it.

Sure, I doubted myself. Sure, I had my confidence shaken a few times in my young adult life. Sure, I could feel less than. But that wasn’t unworthy…was it?

I imagined a girl with her head down, her posture bent from the weight of her self-hatred. Unable to even glance up at the beautiful world around her. Completely collapsed by a lack of feeling worthy.

And that was not me.

That wasn’t anyone I knew either.

But that’s the sneakiness of unworthiness…it is most often buried deep within us.

Little seeds of stories that have been planted in our subconscious throughout our lives that sprout up seemingly out of nowhere. Sometimes, small and quiet. Sometimes blossoming into giant weeds that completely overtake us.

Unworthiness doesn’t look like a broken, decrepit woman most of the time.

It can look like a man who lives a secure life, complete with a wife, kids, dogs and a mortgage he easily pays with his steady freddy job.

It can look like a celebrity who has garnered all the attention, fortune and fame and seems to have the “perfect” life.

It can look like a woman who continues to have unsuccessful relationships but tells herself she’s perfectly happy being single, while deep down craves a soulful love.

It can look like a spiritual leader, someone who shares their beliefs with the world in a way that really resonates with others.

It can look like a confident, high achieving, entrepreneur/athlete/mom who has set out to do something big in the world. ????????‍♀️

So…um…yeah. Unworthiness.

I’ve felt it.

I feel it.

I’m intimate with it.

And the more I get to know myself, the more seeds and weeds I find.

Some I knew about.

And some take me by complete surprise when I realize that those seeds have been living inside my garden for a loooooooong time.

WORTHY OF LOVE

I met my soulmate when I was 29. Back then, that felt “late.” By that point, I felt like I had been searching my whole life for my true love. This moment came on the back of teenage years reading romance books, simultaneously longing for the deep soul connection these books portrayed and also knowing they were not exactly how real love worked. In my late teens, my boyfriend broke up with me, quietly planting a seed of “not good enough” deep within me that would last a very. long. time.

My 20’s became a series of men “not choosing” me, falling in love fast, but always being the ones to walk away.

I got the message clearly: I am not worthy of romantic love.

The Cowboy was the last to leave me (I nicknamed all my ex’s. There’s The Vegan, The Christian, The Cowboy, etc.). 😉 And when he did, I completely fell apart.

I was 28 years old and heartbroken. Not because of him, per se. But because I just knew I meant for great love. And I was just done not having it.

So I came inside.

I stopped searching for the “perfect” man, and started unpacking the mountains of baggage that had accumulated inside of me.

I stopped asking myself who this soulmate could be, and instead started asking myself who I could be in order to attract great love.

I became intimate friends with loneliness, looking her straight in the eye and not allowing her to drive me into the arms of someone who was not meant for me.

And I dug and dug until I found those seeds of unworthiness, held them all in my hand and examined each one. I listened to their stories, their pain and their limiting beliefs with tenderness, and then held them to my heart as I reminded myself that…

I am worthy of love.

I began showing up to life differently. With intention. With a feeling of wholeness that was easily felt by others.

I even started a YouTube channel called My True Love TV https://www.youtube.com/@MyTrueLoveTV

(I was a content creator back in 2009 yo!) so I could share what I was learning with other women out there.

You already know what happened next, right?

Because this is how manifesting works. This is how energy and vibration work. When we align with ourselves, we attract what we desire, we call in what’s meant for us.

Almost a year after my breakup with the Cowboy, I met Chris. My passionate, life-loving, creative Greek.

And I couldn’t have met him any earlier. Our souls could not have found one another until I had remembered my truth: I am worthy of great love.

But this is not a romance book or a RomCom. No bow of perfect finality was tied on our relationship when we officially said I love you’s and committed our lives to one another. That’s where our story turned the pages onto the following chapters of this continued book called Katie’s Great Love. ???? Those sneaky seeds of unworthiness still seem to plant themselves in my relationship garden and rear their ugly head every now and again. So, I continue to come inside and dig those mother fuckers up. 😉

How has unworthiness showed up in your love life?

How has it kept you small? Hidden?

How have you connected with your worthiness?

What has doing so done for you and your relationship?

WORTHY OF MONEY

Ooooo girl…where do I even start with this one?

You are worthy of true prosperity.

You are worthy of receiving, having, spending, saving, and investing money. Lots of money.

Before the Women’s Meditation Network, I had a podcast and business called Biz Women Rock. I helped a ton of women entrepreneurs build businesses they loved. So, I can say from experience that I know so many of us really struggle with feeling worthy of true prosperity.

We tell ourselves it’s selfish to want or have so much.

We tell ourselves others will think we’re spoiled and snooty if we are rich.

We tell ourselves we can’t have money and a life…that our family life, our love life, our health and our friendships will suffer if we pursue financial success.

We tell ourselves we will become a target and be unsafe if we become “too wealthy.”

And all of these limiting beliefs stem from those nasty seeds of unworthiness.

How did your seeds get planted?

Let’s forgo the deep childhood therapy here and instead jump right into how these words hit me back in 2012 when I first heard them.

I was 3 years into my own entrepreneur journey and really struggling. Remember that YouTube channel about love? I had big, big plans for that to pay the bills quickly and easily when I quit my day job.

It did not.

And when I realized that in 2009, about a month after I quit, I instead threw all my energy into helping Chris’ startup company.

I quickly became the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, IT Specialist, Sales Rep and Event Planner.

And I was obsessed with our finances. Or, lack of finances, I should say. Organizing them, managing them, and ultimately, figuring out how much left we had until we had no more.

As you can imagine, this energy saturated the company’s financial success. We kept our doors open, for sure, but by the time 2012 came along, things were not looking good.

By then, I had heard terms like money mindset and abundance and law of attraction. But as our bank account confirmed, I hadn’t yet “got it.”

Until I went to a Tony Robbins event.

There, we did an exercise that had us look our greatest fear in the eyes. At that time, mine was going broke.

Tony gently prompted us to go down the path of the worst case scenarios where our fears came true.

I sobbed as one by one, my mind cobbled together the picture of complete destitution. Utter financial ruin. Unraveled from all the “safety” that I thought money provided.

Until I sat naked and empty in an openness. No more tears were left. No more resistance remained.

You would be okay.

You will always be okay.

I heard this voice whisper to me in the emptiness. And suddenly I felt…solid. Whole. Strong. Safe.

I returned home with a new relationship with money. A desire to use it as a tool, a desire to detach from the deep meaning I had given it my whole life.

A willingness to hear the whispers that followed.

You are worthy of money.

Now, it was just a big game.

One I saw the results of right away as our company completely turned around financially within a month after I returned.

***

PS: Just like my relationship with my husband, my relationship with money continues to shift and change and evolve. I’m constantly walking through the landmine of limiting beliefs and stories that show up in my life, digging down deep into the ground to see what is at the root of them all. And the more that I rewrite those beliefs to ones of worthiness, the more money comes to me.

What are some of your limiting beliefs about money?

What would it feel like to really know that you are worthy of unlimited wealth and abundance?

WORTHY OF YOUR DREAMS

If you were to close your eyes right now, place your hand on your heart and ask yourself, am I living to my fullest potential? What would your heart say?

“Your fullest potential” is not to be mistaken for a basket full of accomplishments or trophies you have checked off your list or want to acquire.

Living in your fullest potential means that you are living fully expressed in your gifts and intentionally evolving yourself in the direction of your dreams.

So…are you?

It’s been my experience that most people would hear the whispers of a disappointing truth: no.

Some might even wince at the not even close they hear.

Listen again…

And ask your heart why?

My guess is that somewhere in that answer, perhaps buried deep, deep, deep in your subconscious, is a belief that you are not worthy of your dreams.

I should know. I’ve heard it too.

I still hear it from time to time.

In fact, I just heard that voice last week.

It bubbled up to my ears as I was picking up branches and debris Hurricane Helene scattered across my yard.

I was listening to an incredible book https://mysolluna.com/fiveheartsbook while I worked, letting the sweat drip from me as I squatted down again and again.

The physical labor felt good. Cleansing. Any complaints my body did make were easily silenced by the intense gratitude I felt for the minimal damage the hurricane had done to our place. Other friends weren’t so lucky. Not too far away were streets lined with mountains of furniture, drywall and other household items that had been damaged by the record-breaking storm surge in the Tampa Bay area. I know friends whose homes or businesses were completely destroyed.

This gratitude, and the repetitive, physical task of cleaning up the yard cleared my mind and opened up my heart in a beautiful way that magically mundane activities can do.

And in this space, I heard a soft voice.

You think you don’t deserve your dreams…

This was a divine answer to a question I’d been pondering for awhile.

What am I doing with my business?

Quick Back Story:

The audio episode of this email you’re reading right now is a small part of the Women’s Meditation Network…a collection of 20 podcasts I’ve built from scratch for 6 years now. In that time, we’ve attracted the most incredible listeners (that’s you ????), and as of this episode, our meditations have been listened to over 156 million times. It’s absolutely mind blowing…and a level of business success I’ve never experienced before. But, somewhere along the way, I got a little lost. Felt a little separated from my why. Felt my why changing. And felt a ton of ups and downs as I realized that showing up to my business in the way I always had, wasn’t really working anymore.

So, I sat in this uncomfortable space of questioning for a long time. Continuing to show up and do the work, but not feeling very clear on where to go or where that fire was.

Until I heard those words.

You think you don’t deserve your dreams…

Woah.

That’s deep.

I need to unpack that.

The truth was that I’d been coming inside a lot to try to find clarity on what exactly I wanted this business to be, and who I wanted to be with it.

And while I was starting to get a clearer picture, I couldn’t figure out why it hadn’t crystallized.

But as I heard these words, it all made sense. I was self-sabotaging because I felt unworthy of my dreams. Unworthy of the growth and success and fulfillment that would naturally happen as I poured pure love and self-expression into this incredible community.

Basically, I was letting my ego dictate my life and shield me from my dreams.

And once I saw that, I knew I could choose differently.

???? I could choose to dismantle and rebuild my schedule so it supported the things I love doing the most here – writing and communicating.

???? I could approach my business growth strategy with love and excitement and joy, rather than fear and manic hustle.

???? I could choose to move bravely through fears and anxieties about all the unknowns as I come back to my heart and remember that…

I am worthy of my dreams.

I could choose to not fear my light and instead embrace it, trust it and harness it.

YOU ARE WORTHY

The next time you see a “You Are Worthy” post on social media (perhaps on the Women’s Meditation Network Facebook page) 😉  https://www.facebook.com/womensmeditationnetwork/ I hope it’s a reminder for you to come into your heart and remember this truth.

I hope it clearly identifies all those little seeds of unworthiness that can sneak into our garden so you can dig them out and let them go.

And I hope it reminds you of your true nature, your oneness with the Divine, with everyone and everything in our universe, dissolving those limits and reinforcing the truth of your power.

You are worthy.

Of anything.

Of everything.

Just because you’re YOU.

I love you…
